Welcome

Ramblers Blog traveling from Hudson, OH to Anchorage, AK. (May 17 to May 31, 2023)

Trip Preparations:

We have driven to Anchorage three times in the past traveling by RV, (1984, 2011, 2013), and in 2022 driving in our SUV and staying at hotels along the way,. This year we are both driving, staying at hotels along the way and taking the Alaska State Ferry. Before we get on the ferry, we are stopping in Astoria, Oregon and Kent, Washington to visit former Alaskan friends.

Why this destination and why now?
We used to live in Anchorage, and now our daughter Brenna, Son-in-law Zach and grandchildren, Dean and Quinn, live there.
We are both retired and in good health, so what better time to experience this new adventure.

A word about this blog. It has been our goal in recent years’ lengthier travels to record for posterity a diary of travel stats, pictures, and personal reflections. So, when we can no longer indulge in long distance trips we may relive fond memories. We invite you to ride along through these personal writings risking exposure to our bad puns, and spelling errors.

* We may not have daily access to Internet so updates may be delayed, but once they appear they will be in sequence.

Travel time local trips

Day 9 of our road trip to Alaska.

Awoke 6:30 AM at Town Suites; we checked out early and they are reimbursing our Marriott points.  We arrive at Al and Betty’s midmorning.  Chuck and Al take off for a day of golf using Al’s car.  No way were they getting clubs into our packed car.  Golfing at River Bend in Kent; well maintained, required straight hits, several water features.  Tall pines and cedar trees.  Pat and Betty had leisurely day with a quick lunch at Shari’s, similar to a Perkins.  They are gifting us two large delft plates that were bought in Scotland.  We were at a sale in small conservation village of Eaglesham outside Glasgow, a favorite spot for afternoon tea at the Wishing Well.  Betty saw the plates and scooped them up; Pat always admiring.  Due to their downsizing and kids not wanting them we are the fortunate recipients.  We pack them well with UPS materials and into the car cache they go.  Fond memories and lovely gift to receive.

Golf went well, they played a threesome; Chuck is renowned for long, straight drives.  He and Al had a great time with a cart.  Dinner at Rock Pizza located in shopping plaza.  Lots of exposed brick.  Pizzas were excellent.  Back at the house we finish off with apple pie (perfect dessert after pizza?  Oh well we’re on vacation).  Spend the night in our new location Best Western Plus that is located on the golf course Chuck and Al played.  Beautiful, clean, lots of amenities, full breakfast.

Leaving tomorrow for the ferry.  It’s been a great visit with the Bloombergs!

Nighty night!
